6-The Sioux City Journal, Tuesday, December 12, 1995 OBITUARIES Laverne Allen Laverne Allen, 68, of Grand Forks, N.D., a former Sioux City resident, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 1995, at United Hospital in Grand Forks. Services will be 1:30 p.m. today at Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel in Grand Forks with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks.

Mrs. Allen was born Nov. 13, 1927, in Walthill, the daughter of Warren and Blanche (Summers) Karch. She was raised at Walthill and attended school there. She moved with her family to Sioux City as a child, where she later worked at a packing plant.

She married Winford L. Allen in 1951 at Sioux City. She moved to Grand Forks in 1982 to be near her family. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Pat (Dianna) Donahue of Grand Forks and Rita Noble of Ocheyedan, Iowa; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, George of Fergus Falls, Harvey of Billings, and Kenneth of Pic City, N.D.; and three sisters, Mrs.

Gene (Mavis) Myaer of Billings, Cleo Metcalf of Anchorage, Alaska, and Joyce Nichols of Omaha. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Rose Mato and three brothers, Harold, Raymond and Timmy. Pearl O. Austin Pearl O. Austin, 98, formerly of 3826 Peters died Saturday at a Sioux City nursing home after a brief illness.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel with burial in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. AREA OBITUARIES Lesli Barnes VERMILLION, S.D. Lesli Barnes, 35, of Des Moines, a former Vermillion resident, died Saturday, Dec.

9, 1995, at her home. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. today at Plymouth Congregational Church in the Lane Chapel in Des Moines. The burial will be private. Westover Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Additional services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the UCC Church in Vermillion. Miss Barnes was born at Ames, Iowa. She graduated from Vermillion High School in 1979. She lived in Sioux Falls for many years and later at Atlanta, prior to moving to Des Moines years ago.

She was a respiratory therapist for Integrated Health Services in Des Moines. Miss Barnes was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Des Moines. Survivors include her mother, Alice Barnes of Vermillion; her father, Robert Barnes of Vermillion; her twin sister, Laura Barnes of Sioux City; and a brother, Eric Barnes of Sioux Falls. LeRoy Boyd Ferdig Ferdig, 67, of Springfield, a former resident of Oto, died Monday, Dec. 11, 1995, at his home in Springfield.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Key officiating. Burial will be in the OTO, Iowa LeRoy Boyd Vera Louise Beckner, 84, of Payson, a former Sioux City resident, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 1995, in Payson.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today at Phoenix Memorial Park in Phoenix, Ariz. Payson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Beckner was born Feb.

12, 1911, in Mapleton, Iowa. Survivors, include three sons Barbara and their wives, Jim Cowell and of Sioux City, Dan Cowell and Agnes Payson and Bill Beckner and Carol of Oakton, 12 grandchildren and 19 -grandchildren. Vera L. Beckner Ann L. Fjeldos Ann L.

Fjeldos, 1 76, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 9, 1995, at her residence. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Riverside Lutheran Church with the Rev. Glenn Schacht officiating.

A family graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mrs. Fjeldos was born Dec. 1, 1919, in Lancaster, the daughter of Kasmir and Martha (Wallenberg) Smolak. She married Laif Fjeldos April 24, 1947, in Sioux City. He died Aug.

2, 1992. She spent the summers at Big Elbow Lake, near Waubun, Minn. She had Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Ferdig was born in Ticonic where he grew up. He married Betty Darlene Keifer and they made their home in Woodbury County. He was retired from Swift Co. and served in the U.S.

Army as a medical aideman. He had been a resident of Iowa until 1979, when he and his wife moved to Bay County, from Oto. Survivors include his wife; three children, Leonard Ferdig of Panama City, Lynn Ferdig of Fountain, and Sheila Lee of Cedar Grove, two sisters, Fern Gardner of Oto and Marie Berrant of Sioux City; two brothers, LaDeen Ferdig of Sioux City and Jan Ferdig of Freeport, Texas; and four grandchildren. Harry Hilts SALIX, Iowa Harry Hilts, 71, of Scranton, formerly of Salix, died Saturday at a hospital in Ames after a lengthy illness. Services will be 1:30 p.m.

Wednesday at the Christian Church in Scranton. Burial will be in Scranton. Wilmer C. Lamont MERIDEN, Iowa Wilmer C. Lamont, 79, of rural Meriden died Sunday at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee of injuries suffered in an accident at his farm home.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Church of Christ been employed at Armour Packing Wincharger Zenith and the Woolco Store. Mrs. Fjeldos was a member of Riverside Lutheran Church. She was recently recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow for lifetime achievement.

Survivors include a son, Larry and his wife, Jan of Brookings, S.D.; two daughters and their husbands, Cookie and Dr. Gerald Chicoine of Sergeant Bluff and Karin and Tony Sperbeck of Elk River, four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Mike Smolak of Rosemount, two sisters, Mary Lind of Lake Bronson, and Stella Parker of South Sioux City; and a sister-in-law, Lillie Smolak of Lancaster, Minn. She was also preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; her twin, Pete, Steve, Joe, Johnny and Paul, and two sisters, Rita and Victoria. Donald E. Goergen Donald E.

Goergen, 71, Sioux City, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 1995, at his home. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednes- a at St. Boniface Catholic Church with the Rev.

(Heenan) Goergen. He was raised in Jackson in Cherokee with burial in Liberty Cemetery, rural Meriden. A family prayer service will be at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Visitation will be all day today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Shirley E. Hogue HARLAN, Iowa Shirley E. Hogue, 70, of Harlan died Sunday, Dec. 10, 1995, at her home in Harlan following a long illness. Services will be 10:30 a.m.

Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan with the Rev. Jon Benson of ficiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Graceland Cemetery in Blencoe. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m.

Boniface School and Jefferson School. Mr. Goergen was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Eagles Lodge Aerie 77 and the Teamsters Union Local 383. He served in the U.S.

Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife; four sons, John P. and his wife, Ellen of Omaha, Ronald J. and his wife, MarJean of Sioux Falls, S.D., Edward D. of Sioux City and Steven and his wife, Joni of Sioux City; three daughters and their husbands, Donna M.

and Charles Yates, Dorothy and Ricky Wingert and Diane S. and Gerald Brummond, all of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, James and Blanche of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Gene and Therese of Sergeant Bluff: and two sisters and their husbands, Madeline and William McCormick of Sioux City, and Margaret and Ralph McKinley of Las Vegas, Nev. He was preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers will be Maxie and Charles Yates, Neil Peck, Jeff Buchman, and Tom and Robert Guillaume. She married Larry Hogue Dec. 27, 1945, in Hiawatha, Kan. The couple moved to Texas in 1947 where she worked as a CPA. They returned to Onawa in 1959 where she was a bookkeeper for Larry Don's Electrical and Sporting Goods. In 1964, they moved to Harlan and she workdas a librarian for the Harlan Public Schools for 20 years, retiring in 1987.

Mrs. Hogue was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan. Survivors include her husband; five sons, Bradley of Aurora, Keary of Harlan, Mark and his wife, Carla of Omaha, Kevin and his wife, Michele of Coralville, and Kolin and his wife, Amy of Kalona; three daughters and their husbands, Kathie and Scott Hockenberry of Sioux City, Debbie and Russell Mangels of Harlan and Kelly and Mike Christiansen of Harlan; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, JoAnn and her husband, Don Solberg of Moorhead and a brother, Denzel and his wife, Betty Ewing of Omaha. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Donald Ewing. so Pallbearers will be her sons and Andrew M.

Morgan MOVILLE, Iowa Andrew M. "Andy" Morgan, 86, of Moville died Monday at Colonial Manor Care Center in Correctionville. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thurs- Orlando, a former longtime resident of Sioux City, died Sept. 30 in an Orlando hospital.

Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 9 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Mr. Kluender was born May 5, 1917, in Paullina, Iowa, the son of Albert and Louise (Mueller) Kluender.

He grew up in the Paullina and Granville, Iowa, area. On Oct. 18, 1942, he married Verlie K. Ebel in Alexandria, La. The couple lived in Paullina until moving to Sioux City in 1948.

He owned and operated Kluender Transfer. He then worked for trucking industries for 28 years, retiring in 1976 after working 10 years for Denver-Midwest. Mr. Kluender was a member of Teamsters Local 383, St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Siouxland Senior Center in Riverside.

He served in the U.S. Army during World day at the Moville United Methodist Church with burial in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at McCulloch Funeral Home, Moville. Laura L.

Piedi PENDER, Neb. Laura L. Piedi, 86, of Pender died Monday at the Homestead Health Care Center in Lincoln. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Church of Pender with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Pender.
